GIRLS: Lena Dunham

I graduate this past weekend! Yay – I’m a 23-year-old college graduate GIRL with a full-time job! Woooo

I watched Girls, Season 1 and 2 in about…oh…3 days. It was one of those you watch one, you’re intrigued, weirded out, disgusted…but you go to the next one immediately. If you haven’t watched it, I highly suggest checking out at least two episodes.

Lena is raw, real, and ridiculously hilarious. If you want to listen to her and Howard Stern (from January 2013) discuss the little fat girl, anal sex, and Lena’s experience with being a writer, creator, and actor, click this link.

Lena, and the rest of the characters on Girls are inspirational – they are real, show their weaknesses and vulnerabilities as much as the strong sides…they each portray something that we can probably all identify with – changing constantly…somewhat insecure, somewhat neurotic, somewhat happy, but somewhat lonely. I really appreciate Lena’s character’s ability to be comfortable in her own skin – even though she is the least conventionally attractive character on the show. It helps to portray that beauty and attraction are MORE than skin deep.

During her interview with Howard Stern, she is discussing her book deal and says something along the lines of “I won’t deny the 3.1 million but I was raised it is impolite to talk about the money you make”…which highlights her modesty (which you don’t see in her character, that often).

Check out an article regarding Lena’s impact on media:

Remember, what makes you most attractive is your self-esteem, not your weight, or your skin color, or your hair, or your makeup. But about who you are…so be someone you would want to know and be someone you are proud to share with the world. Love yourself & others. ❤
